The Perch Pod – Andrey Sushentsov on Russia

Happy Tuesday loyal Perch folk. Jacob here. I wanted to let you know that we published our latest podcast episode. A brilliant Russian political analyst named Andrey Sushentsov joined me to talk about what’s happened in the U.S. in the last 12 months from a Russian perspective. We also spent some time talking about Ukraine and other major issues in U.S.-Russia relations.

I met Andrey at a conference many years ago now. I remember being shocked because Andrey was presenting a stoic and pragmatic explanation of Russian foreign policy…and every other panelist started attacking him relentlessly. The point of the conference wasn’t to browbeat each other but to share ideas! Or at least, that was what we had been told.

I made it a point of getting to know Andrey at that conference because I don’t think you should attack things you don’t understand – you should befriend them! Over the years we have kept in touch and Andrey was one of the very first guests we had on the podcast last year and he was generous enough to agree to come on a second time.

I am sure that you will walk away from the episode with a more informed perspective of how Moscow views the world – something that has become increasingly hard to come by due to the politicization of Russia in U.S. domestic politics in recent years.

You can listen to the podcast by clicking here. Or, as always, if listening to podcasts isn’t your jam, you can read the transcript here.
